History and Mission

MISSION STATEMENT

GLENCROFT is a senior adult ministry deeply rooted in the teachings of Jesus. We are dedicated to providing excellence in physical, emotional and spiritual support for the people we serve to optimize their independence and quality of life in a place they call home.

Carl and Caroline Johnson sat at their kitchen table and asked the question, "what will happen to us"? Their home had become too much to care for and finances were slowly being depleted due to chronic health problems. The increasing sense of desperation and urgency in their inability to care for each other was overwhelming. Without family to lend support, separation seemed inevitable and their future...uncertain.

The prayers of the Johnsons were answered through the caring of Sara Ruth, a minister's wife who saw their need and took the couple into her home. She cared for them and gave them the opportunity to stay together until their death. After the Johnsons were gone, Sara Ruth received a check for $500 from their estate in appreciation for her kindness. That $500 has grown into what we now cherish as Glencroft Retirement Community.

Today, Glencroft is home to more than 900 residents with similar stories. Apartments, assisted living facilities and a Medicare-certified care center are all staffed by caring professionals. Besides staff members, there are more than 250 loving volunteers, who provide more than 48,000 hours of tireless service each year. Glencroft operates under the leadership of The Friendship Retirement Corporation, a not-for-profit corporation sponsored by Mennonite Health Services. There are also nine churches designated as cooperating congregations throughout the valley.
