A Piano, A Purpose, A Blessing
For many residents, music is more than background sound — it’s memory, emotion, and medicine.
That’s exactly what Jan Crouch, one of Glencroft’s newest residents, brings to life through her beautifully arranged hymn performances. Her music, now available on YouTube and airing regularly on Channel 4, is more than just a recital — it’s a ministry of joy, healing, and remembrance.
“If the video we did is a blessing… I will be really happy,” Jan smiles at the beginning of her full-length performance video.
Jan’s Musical Journey: From Childhood Keys to Community Comfort
Jan began piano lessons at the age of seven. As she grew, so did her musical purpose. By her senior year in high school, she was already accompanying choirs, trios, and quartets. But it wasn’t until her husband entered assisted living that she discovered the true healing power of sacred music.
“We had a program called Hymn Tunes on Thursdays. They absolutely loved it. It was therapy for them.”
Her music helped residents connect to memories long buried — a kind of musical time travel that lifted spirits and opened hearts.
The Healing Power of Hymns
In the video now shown across the Glencroft campus and online, Jan shares her heart — and hands — with a collection of beloved spiritual pieces, each arranged with her own nuanced style.
One of the most powerful moments comes with her rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Jan recounts its deep historical roots:
“It was written by a man who owned a slave ship. The slaves only used minor keys… so when I play it, I use those minor keys.”
It’s this personal touch — part historical, part heartfelt — that transforms a familiar tune into an educational, emotional experience for listeners of all ages.

Jan’s full performance is:

A Music Ministry on a Mission
Jan’s motivation isn’t applause. It’s outreach.
“At this point, I just want it to be a ministry — something you can enjoy and share with your friends.”
Each arrangement is her own. Each keystroke is purposeful. Whether you’re relaxing with headphones or sharing it with a grandchild over lunch, Jan hopes her music brings comfort, warmth, and the peace of shared memory.
Fun Fact: Jan’s piano doubles as physical therapy after surgery — keeping her hands strong and spirit stronger.
