Indoor Activities for Seniors

Even though we are all blessed to be living in Arizona and out of the harshness of winter that many others are enduring, we still get that instinct to hibernate when the morning temps are in the 40s! It’s important to still try to get outdoors for a bit for some fresh air and sunshine, but during the times that you are hunkered down inside, there are so many fun things you can do to fill your days. Here are some ideas to entertain yourself:

  • Embark upon a project like researching your ancestry. There are many services that help you get started, such as Ancestry, MyHeritage, and Legacy Tree. This is a fun and exciting journey that you can really get lost in.
  • Start a book club with a couple of friends. There are so many great things about book clubs, including that you can do it with friends in person or even remotely. You can find book recommendations at Goodreads and even join virtual book clubs on platforms like Reese’s Book Club or Oprah’s Book Club.
  • Organize a couple of drawers or a closet. I know what you are thinking—fun, not cleaning! However, the sense of accomplishment you will feel after completing a project that allows you to find things easier is truly rewarding. If you need some organization tips, check out Marie Kondo’s Method.
  • Write an old friend or family member a letter. In the tech world we live in, with text messages and emails, it’s quite refreshing to get a handwritten letter. Such a nice surprise for the recipient. You can find beautiful stationery at Paper Source or even try a digital handwriting service like Handwrytten if you want to send something handwritten but digital.
  • Try a new recipe. Bust out the old crockpot! There are so many delicious options for the crockpot—easy, economical, and tasty. If you’re looking for inspiration, visit AllRecipes or Delish. If you have a group of friends, consider rotating a weekly get-together where each person hosts.
